AB-1115: Acupuncture Assistants

Bill Status: VETOED by Governor.

On Friday, October 7, 2005, Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed this bill, stating:

The bill is unnecessary. Existing law clearly prohibits any person other than a  licensed acupuncturist or other specified  health professional from practicing  acupuncture. The functions performed by the “acupuncture assistant” as defined in this bill are administrative and clerical in nature and do not require regulation in order to enhance public health and safety

This bill would have created the position of "acupuncture assistant" and restricted the services that an acupuncture assistant would have been authorized to perform to non-acupuncture services.

AIMS supported this bill. It is consistent with our position that only Licensed Acupuncturists should perform acupuncture services.
