AB-1114: Continuing Education Requirements
[Assemblymember Leland Yee (District 12--San Francisco)]
AIMS Position: SUPPORT
Bill Status: SIGNED by Governor.
On Friday, October 7, 2005, Governor Schwarzenegger signed this bill into law. This new law will take effect on January 1, 2006.
This new law requires a Licensed Acupuncturist to complete 50 hours of continuing education every two years, an increase from the current requirement of 30 hours every two years. The law requires that no more than five of these hours be spent on "issues unrelated to clinical matters or the actual provision of health care to patients."
AIMS supported this bill. Twenty-five hours of continuing education per year is consistent with the profession's primary health care status. AIMS believes that a solid continuing education program is an important part of maintaining this status.
